Today up for review....."Chilosos" off 20th in the Heights.
I have been all over town in search of the best taco joint in Houston and to this point "Solis" across the street from Dulles HS has ranked number 1....get the NASH it's awesome! After going to Chilosos....Solis remains number 1. However, I have really positive things to say about Chilos. First, it has a very cool atmosphere, although it has it's share of douchy douches, I always have a warm place in my heart for restaurants that used to be homes. It makes me want to open a taco shack in my home.....but I won't for my roommates benefit.
My problems are two fold and are typically the short-fallings of taco places. First, the tortilla itself was a bit thick. Personally I like a less doughy tortilla because the thicker the tortilla the less flavor in the taco. Second, the proportions were a bit off. Too much egg and potato and not really enough flavor. I like my potatoes to be cooked a little longer and to have more of a "hash" taste and texture. The eggs were just cooked and thrown into the tortilla and didn't really add to the flavors of the taco. On the bright side....the bacon was super crispy and generous! Don't be chinsy on the bacon, and they weren't!! :) yay
All in all, I would say a big thumbs up to Chilosos and I would rank them as.........Number 2 in the city. Way to go!
